During 2022 Ysgol Derwen Foundation School undertook a major program of work which included relandscaping parts of the school grounds. This was with the aim of providing quiet areas for the children and also enhancing biodiversity in the school environment. There are a number of features and initiatives that support and contribute to the local environment and biodiversity. These include planting lavender and lobelia in new flower beds to encourage bees and butterflies as well as planting sunflowers to then use the seeds for bird feeders.
